So my man Jireh, shot some video still-life portraits and put them to Bon Iver’s “Up In The Woods” track. I love this track, and when I first saw it, I thought it was the legit video from Bon Iver, so I didn’t think much of it. I later found out it was a little video project of Jireh’s. He was telling me that at first he wasn’t sure what exactly he could use the footage for, that he just kind of shot it on a whim. But both the song and the footage have a really intense, introspective vibe to them that I think compliment each other great and almost seamlessly! Well done, man. Well done.

Slaraeffenland - The Right Place

Apparently November, 2009 is a good month for new tunes. Nice album artwork on this one too (by Cody Hudson).

Since I’ve moved to my current apartment, few things still retain their original sense of wonder and charm. But one of them is still my neighbors dog. Apparently this thing hangs out on the roof all day, almost ev-e-ry day, and goes nutbags for anything moving down below. Whats even better is that when he sees something, he doesn’t stay stationary… he puts his front two paws on the ledge and shimmies around the roof barking manically and following whatever it is that caught his eye. I’ve noticed he particulary likes people on bikes, baby strollers, and pretty much anything else that sets the normal pedestrian apart from a regular walker. Viva Brooklyn!!

Born Ruffians - Hummingbird

I just picked up Born Ruffians “Red Yellow & Blue” album, and have to say it’s a solid album from start to finish. There are some noticeable similarities to Animal Collective through it (and even read there were some formal connections which may explain it), but all in all it’s a great album :)

Good stuff Ruffians, good stuff.

Nice, nice via Beauchamping.

I saw this post on BOOOOOOOM and thought it was a pretty cool/ creative shot. I think this style of shot may be getting done more and more recently, but the position of the shadow on the tree gives the impression theres a ghost or spirit in the shot. Very cool. Well done Nathan.

So the other night my brother came to town for a show, the Gaslight Anthem at Terminal 5. Beforehand though, we met up with our friend, Dave for some mexican food and general catching up. Towards the end of the meal, Dave was telling us about how he grew up with one of the members of the Gaslight Anthem, and although I had heard this, it was my first time seeing them, so I would be putting it in to a new context. I had seen recently that Bruce Springsteen backed them up at a show (huge ups for a Jersey band to score that :P), and also appeared on the Letterman Show (or one of the late night shows) so they were really starting to gain some momentum.

Anyway, later on that night as I watching the band, I was confronted with this pretty general statement that I think many people tend to take for granted (myself included), but seemed totally relevant that is Life is what you make of it.

After hearing Dave’s stories of “he knew him when” it kind of gave him a starting point for me, and then to see him on stage it was like “wow this guy is really getting to do what he wants to do!” He was up on stage, playing to a sold out crowd at three-tiered venue in one of the biggest cities in the world. Pretty damn impressive. And then I started thinking about some of my friends and how they are getting to do some really exceptional things, and it was comforting to think that life is really what you make of it.

I like to subscribe to the idea that life is a series of experiences that you can pick and choose what you want to do, and ultimately you need to make the most of what you are given or make something else. It’s really up to you to make a difference for yourself.

On that note, I hope everyone has a great weekend!
Later skaters,
